Tillage and Urea Fertilizer Application Impacts on Soil C Fractions and Sequestration

چکیده
Conservation tillage has been considered a smart agriculture practice which preserves soil organic carbon (SOC). However, little work on the labile C fractions in South Africa documented. As such, this focused under different management systems. The objective of study was to assess impact techniques and fertilizer application rates along profile. Samples from no-till (NT), conventional after 5th season (CT-Y5), annual tillage, longer than 5 years (CT-ANNUAL) at 0, 60, 120, 240 kg N ha?1 were taken 0–10, 10–20, 20–30 cm depths analyzed for fractions. 30 depth chosen as sampling because plough layer. At 0–10 cm, NT had higher total C, particulate (POC), permanganate oxidizable (POxC) all rates, especially control treatment, compared both CT-Y5 CT-ANNUAL treatments (p < 0.05). 10–20 depth, POC 60 Greater surface NT, deeper CT, due litter availability incorporation subsoil CT. Higher sequestration observed slower matter (OM) turnover leading formation stabilization C. A larger input over output OM, through high crop residue accumulation decomposition, is reason increase fertilized treatments. Therefore, using conservation agriculture, particular with 0 rate dryland recommended.

Tillage, cropping systems, and nitrogen fertilizer source effects on soil carbon sequestration and fractions.
Quantification of soil carbon (C) cycling as influenced by management practices is needed for C sequestration and soil quality improvement. We evaluated the 10-yr effects of tillage, cropping system, and N source on crop residue and soil C fractions at 0- to 20-cm depth in Decatur silt loam (clayey, kaolinitic, thermic, Typic Paleudults) in northern Alabama, USA. Treatments were incomplete fact...

With increased cropping intensity, one would expect that more crop residue and C would be added to the Soil C sequestration can improve soil quality and reduce agriculsoil than with a crop-fallow system (Campbell et al., ture’s contribution to CO2 emissions. Physical, chemical, and biological fractions of SOC pools, such as coarse particulate organic matter C (CPOM-C), permanganate oxidizable C (KMnO4-C), microbial biomass carbon (MBC), and mineralizable C (Cmin) respond to changes in management practices and provide sensitive indication of changes in the SOC dynamics than commonly reported total soil C alone. We hypothesized that tillage and N-fer...

Disposal of poultry litter, a widely available organic manure in the southeastern USA because of a largescale poultry industry, is a major concern because of its contamination in surfaceand groundwater through N leaching and P runoff. Application of poultry litter in no-tilled intensive cropping system could increase soil C and N sequestration compared with the conventional-tilled system with i...
